Snickerdoodle Recipes - How to Recreate the Best Snickerdoodle Recipes in Your Kitchen
0 comments Posted by Dehaas at 11:00 PMEverybody loves a snickerdoodle from time to time right! Well how about if you could take the best snickerdoodle recipes and recreate one of them in the comfort of your own home. These are sure to wow your family and friends and once you have made them they will definitely become a firm family favorite. So with this in mind where did they originate from?
Snickerdoodles have been around since the late 1800's and are said to have been brought over by Dutch or German colonialists who had settled in the New England area. There are many suggestions as to where the name comes from. Some say that it comes from the German for "snail noodles" although there is nothing to suggest that this is truly the case. Other people say that it comes from the Dutch word "Snekrad" which implies a snail shape. However for most part it is widely believed that it is just a whimsical name made up at the time. So if you are not of American Origin or have been living under a rock for the past 200 years then what exactly is a snickerdoodle?
In essence, a snickerdoodle is similar to the taste and style of a plain sugared cookie, except that instead it is rolled in a cinnamon sugar mixture. What you are looking for in the perfect snickerdoodle is one that has a nice crisp exterior with a soft "melt in the mouth" interior. So with this in mind... how do you recreate the perfect recipe?
Here are several tips that you should know before you go ahead.....
1.It's all about the rising agent - The key to a perfectly cooked snickerdoodle is the leavening agent. In older times they used cream of tartar and baking soda. But for best results try substituting with baking powder. This gives you a much more even risen bake.
2.Dough refrigeration - You also need to refrigerate the dough until the balls are just firm enough. Too little refrigeration and they will be all sloppy, too much and they simply won't puff up. So the timing is crucial
3.Watch the baking times - The main secret however is to never over bake them. If you do this they will be all tough and inedible. The secret is to take them out when they are slightly under done. What happens then is that they will carry on cooking when they are out of the oven and they will harden up just enough so that you have that firm texture on top and a soft chewy center.
As you can see, when it comes to cooking the best snickerdoodles attention to timing is everything. As a rule of thumb, 7-8 minutes in a medium heat oven (around 400 degrees F) will give you the perfect cookie. So in order to recreate the best snickerdoodle recipes in your kitchen, follow this guideline and you won't go far wrong.

I don't think Snickers is racist, but oh my word, it could be so very easily. Packaging 8/10 This actually one of the most distinctive packages I have yet to lay my eyes on. Unlike most American candy bars, it doesn't have the giant green stamp on the back, side, inside, on the candy bar itself, anywhere on it! That's a huge point for me, that green stamp annoys me to no end! I mean, why choose green for the color? Why not choose something that actually MATCHES the rest of the packaging? Did the marketing guys think to themselves, "Hmm, bright neon green and orange go perfectly together! Let's make it happen Johnson!" Now, the name Snickers, as confusing as it is, is actually more clever then you might first assume. Sure, the KKK could be walking into convenience stores by the dozens and purposely mispronouncing it just for laughs. But it's not that easy to mispronounce in that way. The K and the G sound are WORLDS apart from each other. A good decision on Snicker's part, although I still cannot understand why they would choose this name for a bar consisting of peanuts, chocolate. and I think nougat (which is the original). I thought Watchamacallit was a random name, but Snickers literally makes no sense. You know what happens when you laugh or even chuckle while eating a candy bar? YOU CHOKE TO DEATH! It seems like a pretty shoddy business plan to kill off your customers after their first taste. It would make a good catch phrase though, "Snickers, the best and last taste ...

Stress Management - You Don't Have to Put Out a S.o.s. to Stress Eater's Anonymous
0 comments Posted by Dehaas at 7:31 PMStress eating is almost as predictable as drinking a glass of water when your thirsty. The boss calls you into his office and reprimands you for failing to complete a project. First thing you do when you leave his office is head to the break room so you can empty all of your spare change into the vending machine and soothe your bruised ego with a Snicker's Bar hummm. But how long does that soothing feeling last?
You get home and you and your spouse have a disagreement about money. You can't sleep so now it's 2 o'clock in the morning, you find yourself in a dark kitchen stuffing your mouth with the leftover pie by the light of the refrigerator hummm. But how long does that soothing feeling last?
In both of these scenarios that soothing feeling probably doesn't last more then 15 minutes after the last delicious bite. If one of these situation sounds like something you do when stress takes its toll, then it's likely you're a stress eater. Stress eaters like comfort food - pastas, chocolate, and potato chips (all the stuff that's unhealthy, but temporarily relieves your brain from the situation at hand).
You're not alone so, stop feeling guilty about your stress reflex eating. It's normal for us to engage in the habit of soothing ourselves with food. We associate food with good times - family dinners, holiday gatherings - it's no wonder when we need to feel better, we eat!
But you don't want your stress to get the best of your waistline, either. The added weight will add more stress to your life. The best thing to do is begin focusing on how and when you eat so that you can alter your bad habits and find suitable, smarter replacements.
You might recognize that you're a mindless eater. Many people come home from a hard day at work, plop down on the couch with the TV remote in hand, and mindlessly polish off an entire gallon of ice cream or a whole box of cookies before they realize what they've done and then, regret it.
If you're a stress eater, try to make better choices and be mindful of how much you consume. Instead of a loaf of white bread, try a couple of slices of whole grain bread. Eat it slowly and your brain will deliver the benefits of serotonin longer, keeping stress a bay while you recover from the day's events. Here are a few more healthy choices you can make beginning today.
- Eat your vegetables
- Have a piece of fruit
- Low fat yogurt
- Spinach salad
- A handful of nuts
- Avoid refined sugars.
Use this information and you won't need to call stress eaters anonymous anymore
And I'd like you to invite you to use this information beginning today to make healthy choices to manage your stress eating.

Math was never an easy subject for me in school. It didn't seem to matter how much I tried I never seemed to understand what the teacher wanted and I dreaded when we worked out problems on the board, I always made a mistake and the other children always snickered or had hurtful comments to make. The teachers always seemed at a lost of what to do to help me or any other student who could not keep up with the schedule they had written down at the beginning of the school year. I didn't want my own children to experience the dread of learning math; determining that things would be different for them I came up with some tips and now I hope that these suggestions might offer help and guidance if you know a child who struggles with their math skills.

Obsessed with looking young? Well, you do not really have to scour the globe like Juan Ponce de Leon to find your own ‘Fountain of Youth'. Just gobbling down greens, dried nuts, fresh fruits and veggies everyday would ensure that you give those runway glam dolls a run for their money. All you have to do is drop the jellybeans, snicker bars, wafers, cookies and beer cans from your grocery list and chock up your cart with carrots, melons, beans, berries and greens instead to enjoy some healthy noshing. Apart from whetting up your bon appetite, these fruits and veggies would stall ageing, prevent cancer and cardiac diseases and lengthen your life span by years. Sounds too good to be true, right? Take it or leave it, but it's true. All the bright colored fruits and vegetables like spinach, melons, tomatoes, red bell peppers, mangoes and more, that you see on the supermarket shelves are loaded with antioxidants, a compound that helps to fight the free radicals in the body and minimize the influence of ‘oxidative stress'. If you want to dig deep on the health perks of antioxidants, read on. Antioxidants Benefits

It is summer, and ice cream's on the menu! Actually, ice cream is the menu. With a Breyer coupon, a person can get a good deal on over seventy different choices. Breyers natural ice cream selection ensures that all the flavors you taste are real. The reduced fat, sugar, and carb options are ideal for those that are on a strict diet. The "Fun Flavors" are definitely worth trying. Another good way to get rid of the summer heat is with the Pure Fruit Bars.
Breyers offer a wide variety of all natural ice creams. The fruity flavors include - strawberry, cherry, peach, and raspberry. The mint chocolate chip, rocky road, cookies and cream, triple chocolate, and vanilla fudge brownie are also very popular flavors. Breyers have even thought about the lactose intolerant people, and created a lactose-free vanilla ice cream.
Another great way to spend a Breyer coupon is on one of the sandwiches. The vanilla fudge brownie, chocolate caramel brownie, and chocolate chip cookie dough sandwiches are new additions to the Breyers' family.
A lot of people have to follow a strict diet. It is hard not being able to eat a bowl of your favorite ice cream. However, Breyers have a solution for everyone. There are thirteen flavors that have only half the fat. Included are the most popular flavors that everyone enjoys. In addition, there are five flavors that are fat free - creamy vanilla, French chocolate, chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate cookies and cream, and strawberry.
Some of Breyers ice creams have no sugar added. The low carb flavors only contain 4 grams per serving. Breyers have created a Fun Flavors selection that includes - Waffle Cone, Brownie Mud Pie, Fried, Peanut Butter Tracks, Very Chocolate Cherry, Oreo® Cookies and Cream, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers Caramel Swirl Chunk, and Heath® English Toffee. Finding a good coupon discount on these flavors will definitely help you get any party started.
Another natural product is the Pure Fruit® bar. It comes in four flavors, one of which is with no added sugar. The Pure Fruit bars are great for kids because they don't contain any artificial flavors or colors that could be potentially unhealthy.
No matter who a person is, or what kind of ice cream he or she likes, there's a Breyer coupon to match every taste. There are twenty-nine all natural ice cream flavors available. And nothing is better than knowing the food you are eating is real, rather than created in a lab. Many people have to be careful about what they eat. That is why Breyers have created ½ fat, fat free, no sugar added, and low carb, so that everyone can enjoy a bite.
Nutrisystem Dessert Review: Are The Desserts Any Good? Which Are Best?
0 comments Posted by Dehaas at 3:00 AMI get a lot of questions about Nutrisystem's desserts. After all, getting to eat sweets is a big draw of this diet. And, sweets that are low in calories, fats, and carbs are pretty rare in a diet. But, how do they taste? Because what good is getting to eat desserts if they taste like cardboard or if your only choices are a few or undesirable ones? So, in the following article, I'll go over the Nutrisystem dessert options, how they taste, which are best, and what your choices are.

Take your favorite chocolate bar or Oreo cookies, dip them in a batter and deep fry. Freeze the bar first. Great to serve on your dessert table
Oh sweet sticks of glory, you are my savior. Packaging 6/10 By no means would I consider this packaging to be bad, it's actually quite unique. But at the same time, it is a bit confusing to look at. On the one hand, you've got the nice contrast of colors of red, brown, and gold. Then you flip it, and you're hit by a wave of neon green. Me being the chocolate fanatic I am, I don't like having a large neon green menu on the back of my candy bars, it's not an appetizing colors. It reminds me of so many foul things, like Vegas strip clubs and the vomit on the floor of said strip clubs. Also, the bars seem to go off the wrapping themselves! I can only assume that the candy has become sentient, and if this shocking trend continues, we must burn all wrappers that we see in order to preserve what is left of the human race. This things are shaped a bit like swords, and I wouldn't like to get hit in the head with them. Then again, they are made of cookies. Of course, they would travel in packs, after all, they come packaged with two already inside. A swarm of Twix bars coming at you is no way to spend a Sunday afternoon. But as long as I didn't have to look at the oh so distracting packaging, I'd probably be fine. Taste,Texture, and Consistency 8/10 I honestly thought these were smaller than they used to me. That may just be because I haven't eaten one in quite some time, or maybe my hands have just become freakishly large. Regardless, the bar itself is pretty good. The caramel ...

Carbohydrates and the Brain: Why We Cannot Afford to Cut Carbs Out of our Diets
0 comments Posted by Dehaas at 1:47 AMFor people on weight loss diets and just trying to keep the carbs down to a minimum in their diets, we have a little news for you. In order to function properly, our brain requires quite a significant amount of fuel in the form of glucose in order to receive, process, and retain information throughout or daily lives. Without complex carbohydrates, our bodies will tend to feel weakened, a little ‘spaced-out’, and sometimes even faint. So what you are telling us is that we now have to add lots of carbs to our diets? Precisely. However, many people get simple and complex carbohydrates a bit confused sometimes and this is what this article is all about.
Too much sugar in our diets can really cause some damage. It can cause insulin levels to go through the roof, causing risk of diabetes, it can cause us to feel confused, irritated and even dehydrated when taking in the simple and refined sugars from liquid candy and sodas, for example. And, nowadays, it seems we have no place to go as we are told that nearly everything can be bad for us, it seems. However, that is what the glycemic index is used for! First, I want to mention why we need glucose. Over 10% of our body’s energy goes straight to our brain as the cells that communicate with each other called neurons are always in a state of metabolic activity and those bioelectric signals are burning fuel like crazy. In other words, we are always thinking and we need fuel in order to run ourselves.
So, let’s get down to it. There are two main types of carbohydrates. Simple and Complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are found in most of the processed and refined foods (like candy and corn syrup) and maybe some natural foods. They consist of short-chained sugar molecules that easily break and can rapidly be absorbed in our bloodstream creating that rush we have all experienced. The downside here is that the pancreas then to compensate, pumps out its high levels of insulin. We all know what lots and lots of insulin causes: diabetes. But, complex carbohydrates are different. They are more like ‘time-release’ capsules of energy that will optimize our brains performance.
The time-release function of complex carbohydrates is caused by the cellulose fibers that surround the sugars and slow the digestion process and spread out that energy output, keeping us in good shape. The liver then breaks down the longer strains (thus complex carbs) into the shorter ones (kind of like the simple carbs, in a way) and then allowing it into our blood. Now, if we don’t have the right amounts of glucose from this process, our brains will begin to tire out quickly and we will end up with a harsh case of the ‘out of it’ sensation that many experience when on straight protein diets. You have to get those carbs in there, but the right ones!
How do we find these right sources? I’ve got a little bit of information here to help get you educated on more common foods In order to help make the best decisions when making it your goal to optimize your brains performance. Please note that the lower the glycemic index number, the more gradual the release of glucose in your bloodstream which minimizes blood sugar swings and optimizes focus and brainpower.

Overall, we must always keep complex carbohydrates as a part of our daily diet. There are many more reasons beyond the scope of this article, such as strokes and mental decline due to diabetes and more. But hopefully this will create some awareness of the real risks involved with some of today’s proposed diet plans and popular products heavily marketed in stores today. The brain is obviously one of our most essential pieces of equipment and we must treat it accordingly. If you like cars, look at it this way: you would give that Corvette Stingray with the 457 under the hood the special fuel it needs, so why not the generator which makes all of your motors run?

NutriSystem Desserts - How Do They Taste? Are They Really Good? What Are the Choices?
0 comments Posted by Dehaas at 7:52 PMI get a lot of questions about NutriSystem's desserts. After all, getting to eat sweets is a big draw of this diet. And, sweets that are low in calories, fats, and carbs are pretty rare in a diet. But, how do they taste? Because what good is getting to eat desserts if they taste like cardboard or if your only choices are a few or undesirable ones? So, in the following article, I'll go over the NutriSystem dessert options, how they taste, and what your choices are.
Cakes: There are a couple of cake choices. These include the golden pound cake and the chocolate. Now, when I say cake, I don't mean the round, two layer variety. You don't get an entire, big round thing like you would on your birthday. You basically get a slice. The portions are small, but decent enough. And the taste is not too bad at all, although I prefer the golden. No, there's no icing on these. But, what do you expect? Its a diet. And, I'm just happy I'm getting to have my cake and eat it too.
NutriSystem Cookies: There are a few varieties here including chocolate chip, double chocolate almond, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and white chocolate chunk. You know how some dietetic cookies have a cardboard like texture and they crumble horribly and make your mouth dry so that you feel like you can never get enough milk? These are not that bad and there isn't that fake sugar aftertaste. I find the chocolate chunk too strong tasting (a chocolate cookie with chocolate chips added in is overkill, in my opinion.) but, the white chocolate is my favorite. It has a nice, nutty, but sweet flavor.
NutriSystem Protein Bars And Candy Bars: There are two types of bars here. Basically, there is a granola, protein bar type option that comes in the following flavors: chocolate nougat with peanuts and caramel (kind of like snickers); chocolate delight (kind of like 3 musketeers); strawberry shortcake (kind of like a strawberry granola bar); chocolate peanut butter (kind of like Reece's); and blueberry lemon. (This one is my favorite. It is so light, fresh, and indulgent and is unique and different.)
In terms of the candy bar type options, there is a chocolate crunch bar (like Nestle's crunch) and a chocolate mint (like Andee's candies.)
Biscotti: I am very fond of the biscotti. If you've ever had Starbucks biscotti, you know that this is a crunchy, but sort of light treat that often has a nutty taste. There is an almond option and a chocolate macadamia nut. Both are very good, but I like the almond better.
NutriSystem Brownies: There are two choices here but both of them are chocolate. One is more of a chewy bar type and the other has a liquid center that you microwave. The liquid one tends to get messy and the soft liquid in the middle can be sort of a surprise if you are not expecting it.
Cocoa And Chocolate Pudding: The company also offers cocoa / hot chocolate and a pudding. Both are good, but nothing really different tasting that what you could get at the grocery store. The real difference lies in the fact that the company has somehow removed the excess carbs, sugar, fat and calories, which is a good thing.

Aired 5-27-2009. A doctor in the 6-01-2009 LA Times writes: Dr. Amen: "Odom freely confesses that he just can't help himself when it comes to the sweet stuff and always keeps a stash on hand of Gummi Bears, Honey Buns, Lifesavers, Hershey's white chocolate, Snickers bars, cookies and more. He eats the sugary snacks morning, noon and night, and even says he sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night, chows down on some treats, then falls back asleep. "This is bad news for the Lakers. I've been telling my patients for years that sugar acts like a drug in the brain. It causes blood sugar levels to spike and then crash, leaving you feeling tired, irritable, foggy and stupid. Eating too much sugar impairs cognitive function, which may explain why Odom doesn't always make the smartest decisions on the court. . . . "As a fan and a physician, it concerns me that our professional sports organizations and players are not more concerned about brain health, which includes nutrition. My advice to Odom and to all sugar addicts is to get your sugar consumption under control. You'll feel so much better and your brain will function better too. And, maybe the Lakers can get their 15th championship and Odom can get his first."

ANCHOR: And more food products have been found tainted with melamine. South Korea's food watchdog has identified ten Chinese dairy products containing the toxin. They have ordered them to be taken off the shelves. The products include M&M's milk chocolate, Snickers peanut Fun Size, and Kit Kat bars from Nestle. Also in the mix are Ritz Sandwich Cracker Cheese and rice cookies. Infants in China were poisoned after drinking milk formula laced with melamine. Thousands of them have fallen ill with kidney problems and four have died.

The festive season brings with it both joys and stresses. And the place where the tensions are often most evident is in the kitchen! However, November is not ALL about Thanksgiving! We all have three weeks of meals to produce before then. This needn't be a chore if you plan wisely.
